How to Search the Western Newfoundland Geoscience Database

You can search the database by using one or more of the following search options:

Keyword
  • The keyword search will only search for keywords that have been identified and tagged.
Reference Type
  • Choose from one of the following: abstract, book (edited, section or whole), conference proceedings, dissertation/thesis, journal (article, electronic), map, monograph, report, web page

Authors/ Title / Periodical Full Name / Publisher/ Place Of Publication / Availability / Classification

Operator How to Use it
space Using a space between words will return publications that contain either or both words. For example, if you type John Smith in the author field you will return all publications that contain the author name John and/or Smith.
+ Using a plus symbol (+) before a word will return publications that include the word identified. For example, if you type +Ian +Knight in the author field you will return all the publications that contain both the words Ian and Knight in the author field for the publication.
- Using a minus symbol (-) before a word will exclude publications that contain that word. For example, if you type +Knight -Ian in the author field you will return publications that include all the authors named Knight less those publications that contain the author name Ian.
"" Using quotations ("") around a word or phrase in the author field will return publications that contain the exact word or phrase contained in the quotations.

Publication Year
  • 4 digit YEAR format. For example, 1980.
ISSN
  • The International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is an internationally accepted code that identifies the title of serial publications. ISSNs are not assigned to one-off publications, magazine specials, newspaper specials or web sites.

ISBN
DOI
  • A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a unique persistent identifier for a published digital object, such as an article or a study. The DOI system began in 2000 and is managed by the International DOI Foundation. For more information please visit: http://www.doi.org/
